History of Eid-ul-Fitr

Assalamu Alaikum. We Muslims have a variety of religious rules and festivals. Occasional festivities are needed to alleviate the fatigue of this diversity of busy life. So that man can come out of the narrow confines of his daily monotonous life and breathe in the free air of kinship, friendship and love. A restless soul can provide strength and motivation. There are different festivals among people of all races and communities around the world. The festival also creates a sense of ethnic unity. The days of the festival also carry the uniqueness and distinct identity of any nation.

The separate festivals of the Muslims started in the second Hijri i.e. 624 AD. When the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) migrated from Makkah to Madinah, there were two days of tradition; 1. Nowruz and 2 in the full moon of autumn. ‘Meherjan’ in the full moon of spring.
The Prophet (peace be upon him) asked, what are these two days? The people of Madinah said, “We have been playing and rejoicing in these two days since the time of Jahiliyyah.” The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: Allaah has given you two new festivals instead of these two: Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Azha. (Musnad Ahmad 13056).

The word ‘Eid’ is derived from the Arabic ‘Awd’. ‘Awd’ means to turn, to return. Eid means such a day that comes around every year. In Arabic, a special day or festival is called Eid. Fitr means breaking the fast or breaking the fast. The Eid-ul-Fitr known to us is called Eid-ul-Fitr or the festival of breaking the fast in Islamic terminology. Every day during Ramadan, Muslims break their fast after sunset. It is just the fast of that day

Iftar of fasting.

On the day of Eid, one month’s regular fast is broken. That is also a kind of iftar. For the fasting person, every moment of Iftar is a time of joy, Eid-ul-Fitr is especially a day of joy and celebration. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) said: There are two happy moments for the fasting person. (Bukhari 6492).

On the day of Eid-ul-Fitr, Muslims rejoice in being able to observe the fast of Ramadan successfully and also in receiving forgiveness from Allah. This is the day of reward for fasting Muslims. Hazrat Aus Al Ansari (may Allah be pleased with him) said: The Messenger of Allah (may peace be upon him) said: On the morning of Eid-ul-Fitr, the angels stood in the street and said to the Muslims, “O Muslims, come to the Merciful Lord. You have been commanded to perform the night prayers, you have performed the prayers in accordance with that command, you have been told to fast on your day, you have also observed that command, you have fasted for one month, you have fed your Lord by feeding the poor and needy. Receive rewards and rewards for these good deeds. “

One of the obligatory acts of Eid-ul-Fitr is Salatul Eid or Eid prayers. The festival of Eid begins with this prayer. On the first day of Eid, all the Muslims, irrespective of rich and poor Amir-Fakir, stood in a line. Together proclaim the holiness and greatness of God. They inquired about each other and exchanged greetings. This gathering of Muslims is very important in Islam. The Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaah be upon him) instructed all men and women to attend the gathering at the Eidgah. Even if a woman is unable to offer prayers due to menstruation, she is asked to attend the Eidgah.

Umm Atiyah (may Allah be pleased with her) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) instructed the young, veiled and menstruating women to attend the Eid prayer. Menstruating women will refrain from participating in prayers, but will participate in good deeds (charity) and prayers of Muslims.

Another essential part of Eid is “Sadaqatul Fitr”. Muslims perform Sadaqatul Fitr in order to remove the defects of the period of Ramadan and to receive forgiveness. It is obligatory to pay sadaqatul fitr on the able and well-off Muslims. The provision of Sadaqatul Fitr has come to spread the joy of Eid among all irrespective of rich and poor.

Ibn ‘Abbas (may Allah be pleased with him) said that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) made Sadaqatul Fitr obligatory for the purpose of purifying fasting from useless and obscene speech and for providing food to the poor. (Sunan Abu Daud 1609).

Since there is no Hijri calendar or Arabic calendar in our country, we often search for ‘Hijri Calendar’ with the help of Google. The year 1443 AH will start in English 2021 and will end in 2022.
